Speaker 2:

Hi, I'm attorney Samantha Gordon and I'm attorney Jordan Bentley. We're with McIntyre Elder Law and today we're here to introduce Jordan as a new attorney with the firm Jordan. Where are you from?

Speaker 3:

I am from Punagorta, florida, which is a small town by the water in Southwest Florida.

Speaker 2:

Awesome, all right, and what brought you here?

Speaker 3:

Well, uh, after high school I went to both college and law school at Florida State University, go NOLS in Tallahassee, and After I graduated knew I wanted to move to one of the big cities in the southeast. So Charlotte was always kind of calling me.

Speaker 2:

Okay, very nice. And have you practiced law prior to coming here, and what did you practice?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, when I was in law school I had the opportunity to work for some really cool Departments the House of Representatives, the Department of Elder Affairs for the state of Florida, I'm and I actually clerked for an appellate judge. Once I moved here and took the bar exam, I got a job working as a closing attorney. I'm doing real estate law. I spent the last couple years doing domestic law, so family law, divorces, child custody, child support and all the things that go with it.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, okay, so would you say that working in family law really has helped you develop empathy and and really develop those type of skills that are necessary for this area of law that we do estate planning and elder law?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I absolutely think that that it did, and, in addition to giving me a chance to um Kind of develop those skills like you're talking about, I also realized that it was Something that I wanted to do and something that I really enjoyed. There's not a ton of areas of feel-good law, so to speak, but I think estate planning and elder law is is is really one of them, and and working with people and helping them navigate unfamiliar situations and and oftentimes, things that are personally stressful and and causing Disagreements or maybe stress within a family being able to help people figure those situations out and get them from the beginning to the end, is something that I really, really enjoy.

Speaker 2:

And you had mentioned that you worked with elder affairs. Tell us a little bit about that.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, that was um a job that I had during law school. Um working for the state, and what was really cool about that is um working with elder affairs gave me an opportunity to kind of work with and serve a very vulnerable and and underserved for lack of a better word a segment of the population and being for it as elder citizens. Um, I helped reform and and write a lot of statutes having to do with like emergency response and nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Um, as you guys probably know, there's a lot of hurricanes and power outages in florida as a result of those hurricanes, so it was really important that um nursing homes and alfs had the proper instructions and the proper tools to to navigate.

Speaker 2:

Those things when they happen, any type of disaster or anything exactly.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, you think about the disaster, but you don't think about the power outages that comes after and being able to get to those people and assist them and provide for them. Um, which is what we do, right? We plan, we plan for it for bad things and we make them easier when they happen.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, almost a domino effect that you really need to think about and assess.

Speaker 3:

Exactly which is what drew me to elder on a state planning and as a whole.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, definitely. And why did you choose to come to Mac entire elder law? What drew you to us?

Speaker 3:

What did it draw me to you guys? Um, if anyone's about greg, he is a polarizing personality. Um, we'll definitely dominate a room that you walk into. Uh, he made me and and everyone here has made me feel welcome from the moment I walked in. Um, I was drawn to the firm what you guys do, what your values are, what your mission is, and it seems like everyone here really Takes that to heart and cares about what they do. Um, and I'm someone who wants to care about what I do.

Speaker 2:

Well, we're so glad to have you. Thank you so much for joining us for our elder law report and we hope to see you in our offices, where you can meet our new attorney, jordan Bentley.

Speaker 3:
